Palliative care is an approach that improves the quality of life of patients and their families facing life threatening illness.
Home based care: Their palliative trained nursing sisters visit patients in their own homes and liaise with other hospice team members involved in treating the patient.
They offer pain and symptom control as well as nursing management dealing with –
- incontinence
- wound dressing
- prevention of bed sores
- colostomy care
- advise on nutrition and feeding
- equipment such as wheelchairs, mattresses and walkers may be loaned by hospice patients at no charge.
Their Nursing Sisters visit patients residing in the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan region and are available telephonically 24 hours for emergencies.
Hospice East Rand has a long term Care Centre attached to their In Patient Unit, providing comprehensive nursing care to the residents in their care.

- Their hospice is a medical facility for AIDS sufferers.
- The St Francis clinics provide free counselling, testing and ARV’s where necessary
- The Rainbow Cottage provides a home for 30 abandoned or orphaned children up to 7 years of age.
